2010 - BBC One - Bang Goes the Theory - building the Coffee Car! Matt and Martin Bacon helped Jem and his team build a car that ran on used coffee grounds collected from the local shops in Barnard Castle. The show was televised in May as the car travelled from London to Manchester. A brilliant time was had by all - another eco-triumph!

2009 - DEFRA Benefits of Third Sector Involvement in Waste Management -Defra Waste and Resources R & D Project WR0506
We were used as a case study (based on 2007 figures) for this project and I quote:
"Teesdale Conservation Volunteers have no formal relationship with the local authority, apart from the receipt of recycling credits and some grant income. However, they divert more than 1,100 tonnes of green waste from landfill through their composting scheme, generating environmental benefits and making a critical contribution to the local authority’s landfill diversion targets. They provide placements for 8 volunteers thereby increasing their well?being and skills. They generate £2.76 of added value per public £ invested." The Executive Summary and Annex 2 are where you will find TCV mentioned, and to link to the report click here For more information on DEFRA, please visit http://www.defra.gov.uk/ For more information on Resources for Change, please visit http://www.r4c.org.uk/ |
